Our story behind the name Magnetawan River Mercantile
From my childhood days spent vacationing on Doe Lake in the summer, to later being married to my husband Bob on the beach of those same shores in 2014, my heart has always belonged here in the North. Purchasing the cottage rental business that we had married at and I had stayed at every summer two years later only solidified my love for this area and my desire to make this beautiful area my permanent home.
My name is Leslie and I am the face behind Magnetawan River Mercantile. I chose this name for my business for two reasons. First, the Magnetawan River borders the property where we live and run our two businesses and secondly, like a river my life has had many bends, curves, waves, some smooth sailing and some rapids thrown in the mix but near the water I am at peace. I have always loved the lyrics to the song "The River" by Garth Brooks.

Trying to learn from what's behind you and never knowing what's in store
When my husband and I purchased our cottage rental business in 2017, I wanted to provide our guests with some casual comfy clothes to take home and remind them of the time they spent with us. I purchased items from many different suppliers in search of the perfect designs as well as comfort. As time went on, I felt the desire to offer more to our guests and started designing my own art work (I failed to mention I have a passion for arts, crafts & custom apparel). My issue was always in the waiting. When you are a small business in the north that only runs for 4 months of the year, it is imperative to have orders turned out quickly which unfortunately never seemed to be the case. It was of the utmost importance for me to find such a supplier that could meet our needs and when you're a dreamer and you have the support of your family behind you the solution naturally unfolds.
